Wellness Initiative

In an effort to increase employee participation in annual physical exams, provide motivation for tobacco use cessation, and increase overall better health of our employees, the Town implemented a new wellness initiative effective July 1, 2014.

Employees will be required to pay 10% of their health insurance effective July 1.  However, a 10% wellness incentive will be offered to those employees who participate in the following three health-related activities during FY 2018-2019:
  • Physician Verification Form - Form to be submitted by April 30.  Form need to be turned into your Department's Administrative Assistant.
    -Public Works - Cheryl Ross
-Parks & Rec - Kacey Blackmon
    -Police - Melissa Dembnicki
    -Fire - Mauri Walter
  • Participation in the “Tobacco Use 101” class for tobacco users. This class will be offered 2 times during the year, and if employees wish to pursue the First Quit program, it will be available for employees to participate in as well. Additional information about this requirement is listed in the article below.
  • Participation in at least one additional wellness program during FY 2018-2019. Examples of wellness programs that would qualify include pap smear, mammogram, colonoscopy, weight loss competition, First Quit, flu shot, Million Step Challenge, Bowling League, Reindeer Fun Run, etc.
The 10% premium for health insurance will not begin until July 1. If the activities listed above are met, then you will not be charged the 10% premium.

“Tobacco Use 101” Classes

One of the activities required to receive the wellness incentive is participation in the “Tobacco Use 101” class if you are a tobacco user. The “Tobacco Use 101” class will be offered two times during this fiscal year.  Classes will be offered November 28, 2018 and February 13, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.

The “Tobacco Use 101” classes will be held in the EOC at the Fire Station. For those employees wishing to continue their efforts in tobacco cessation, the First Quit program is offered by FirstCarolinaCare.  The only requirement for the wellness incentive is participation in the “Tobacco Use 101” class.
