Principal Dental Insurance

The Town pays for dental insurance for all full-time employees. Employees may elect to cover their eligible dependents at their own expense through payroll deduction and on either a  pre-tax or post-tax basis.  The coverage is effective thirty days following the date of employment.  For more information, contact the Human Resources Department at 944-1115 or rrosy@townofaberdeen.net.

Each employee can create an account that will allow them to see any claims that have been filed, claims that are pending, and order a replacement ID card.

FirstCarolinaCare Health Insurance

Medical insurance is paid 90% by the Town of Aberdeen for all full-time employees, with the remaining 10% paid if the employee participates in wellness initiative.  The Town offers FirstCarolinaCare Insurance to all full-time employees and eligible dependents.  Any additional medical coverage for dependent/spouse/family may be either a pre-tax or post-tax payroll deduction.  The coverage is effective thirty days following the date of employment.  For more information, contact the Human Resources Department at 944-1115 or rrosy@townofaberdeen.net or go directly to the FirstCarolinaCare homepage, here.

Principal Life Insurance

All full-time employees receive a term life insurance policy in the amount of 1 times their annual salary paid for by the Town, which is also effective thirty days following employment. Supplemental Retirement Plans

The Town makes a 5% contribution to the State administered 401(k) plan for all full-time employees concurrent to the effective date in the Retirement System.  Employees may make additional pre-tax or after-tax (Roth) contributions within the limits of the plan's guidelines through payroll deduction to 401(k).  Also, employees may make pre-tax contributions within the limits of the plan's guidelines through payroll deduction to 457 (NC Deferred Compensation Plan).  Employees are able to select the investment options for these contributions.  For more information, contact the Human Resources Department at 944-1115 or rrosy@townofaberdeen.net or go directly to the NC 401(k) and 457 homepage, here.

NC Retirement System

All full-time employees and part-time employees working a minimum of 1000 hours per year are covered under the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System.  The Town of Aberdeen makes a 7.60% contribution for local government employees and 8.25% for law enforcement employees.  The employee contributes 6% of his/her paycheck into their own retirement account.  This is a pre-tax deduction that reduces the amount of Federal and State taxes you pay helping to minimize the impact your contribution has on your earnings.  For more information contact the Human Resources Department at 944-1115 or rrosy@townofaberdeen.net or go directly to the NC Retirement System homepage, here.

ProBenefits (Flexible Spending)

The Town offers Medical and Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts to cover the employee and his/her family members.  This plan allows employees to set aside money on a PRE-TAX basis for any anticipated medical and childcare costs that the employee expects to incur during the year. ProBenefits allows employees to view their transactions, pending transactions, and check the balance of their account.  To create an account, click here.    For the first time logging in ProBenefits, the user name is your Social Security Number (with no dashes) and the password is your birth date (MMDDYYYY).  Once logged into your account you may change your user name and password.  Keep the user name and password safe for future logins.

Vacation: 

Vacation leave is accrued per pay period and is based on years of service.  Probationary employees are not eligible to use vacation leave during their probationary period.  Vacation leave accrual rates are as follows:

Sick Leave: 

Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 3.70 hours per pay period or twelve (12) days per year.  Sick leave may be taken in fifteen-minute increments.  The Town accepts sick leave transfers from other N.C. local government employers.

Funeral Leave:

A regular, full-time employee may have up to twenty-four (24) hours leave at full pay granted in case of a death in the immediate family.  Immediate family is defined, in Article II, Section 4, (j), as father, mother, wife, husband, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, and in-law, step, or half relation of this list.  Additional time may be taken with the approval of the Department Head and should be charged to Vacation Leave or Leave Without Pay.

 

In the event of the death of a spouse or child, as defined by N.C. General Statutes, an employee will be granted forty (40) hours leave with full pay.

 

Parental Leave:

Regular, full-time employees who are parents, guardians, or persons "standing in loco parentis" of a school-aged child, shall be granted eight (8) hours per year of Paid Leave to attend or otherwise be involved at their child's school.  However, Parental Leave is subject to the following conditions:

  1. The leave shall be at a mutually agreed upon time between the Supervisor and the employee;

  2. A written request must be submitted to the Supervisor for the leave at least forty-eight (48) hours before the time desired for the leave;

  3. Written verification from the child's school that the employee attended or was otherwise involved at the school during the time of the leave.

For the purposes of this section, "school" means any public school, private church school, church of religious charter, non-public school, preschool and child daycare facilities.

 

Civil Leave:

A Town employee called for jury duty or subpoenaed as a witness in any work-related civil or criminal legal proceeding will be entitled to Leave With Pay for such duty during the required absence.  When a Town employee attends court in connection with official duties, all time spent in court and in travel to and from home, or place of work, to court will be considered working time.

 

An employee may keep the stipend received from jury duty in addition to regular compensation.  The Town will compensate employees for travel, room and board, and special expenses incurred while serving as a witness in connection with their official duties.  While on Civil Leave, benefits and leave will accrue as though on regular duty.

Holidays:

Longevity: 

Regular, full time employees who have served the Town of Aberdeen and who have worked a minimum of 1,000 hours during the previous twelve months will receive longevity pay based on years of service with the Town as follows:

Educational Assistance: 

Full-time regular employees may apply for educational assistance and educational leave.  Courses relating to the present job or a future position within the Town or to further an employee's education are considered eligible courses to pursue.  The Town of Aberdeen will pay for all of the first $150 of eligible costs for each fiscal year and 1/2 of any remaining eligible expenses up to a maximum of $1000 per fiscal year.  Employees must have a "C" or better in each course in order to receive reimbursement.  Employees are required to work with the Town for 1 year after receiving reimbursement.

Chamber Member Discounts: 

Member discounts are available at a variety of companies, including local merchants and restaurants by showing the Chamber of Commerce Member Discount Card.  If you do not have a Discount Card contact the Human Resources Department at 944-1115.  For a complete list of participating companies, click here.

Credit Union: 

Town of Aberdeen employees are eligible to join the North Carolina Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) at any State Employees Credit Union branch.  You must provide a pay stub for employment verification in order to join.  The Credit Union offers a variety of very competitive services and programs. Loans through the LGFCU may be payroll deducted.

BB&T: 

Town of Aberdeen employees are eligible to join the BB&T Bank through the BB&T @ Work program.  You must provide a pay stub for employment verification in order to join under this program.  BB&T offers a variety of services and programs.  For more information, click on the following BB&T logo.

United Way: 

All full-time employees can contribute a minimum of $1.00 per paycheck to United Way as a charity donation.  If the Town has 100% participation from all full-time employees, then each full-time employee will receive 8 hours paid off for their birthday.

Disability Insurance: 

The Town offers supplemental disability insurance through Colonial Life and it is available each year during open enrollment or within 15 days of employment at the employee's expense.  Premiums are payroll deducted with pre-tax dollars. FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness:
